For Érica Aguilar of Paraná, Brazil, becoming an Avon Representative in 2009 “changed my mind about the value of makeup,” she says. “I realized that wearing makeup boosted my self-esteem, and it is gratifying to know I am helping other women become more confident, too,” she says. “That is the power of beauty.” A role model—and now real model—Érica’s strength is sure to inspire others. “Avon gave me the chance to represent thousands of women worldwide, women who give beauty a purpose,” she says.

My best qualities are: discretion, perseverance, and sensitivity.

The best part of being my own boss is: it’s gratifying to know I am helping other women become more confident. What I like most is hearing women’s stories about their lives. Very few have someone to share their day or their dreams with. I listen to them; I become their friend besides bringing beauty to them.

Empowerment means: the power to fight for your dreams.

My power duo is: mascara and lipstick. It’s not about how much you put on; even a little touch makes me feel good about myself.

The best advice my mother gave me is: be yourself, and fight for the things you believe in. No one can do that for you—you are unique and special.

The thing that gives me pleasure is: nature. Living in a small town, there is a lot of green. There are plenty of nice places to take a walk and enjoy the beauty of nature, and that’s something that always brings me peace.
