Getting to Know: Shaundre Bryson

Confidence may be her beauty secret, but Shaundre Bryson’s motto is financial independence. Since 2006, she has been her own in-control boss. “Financial independence is everything. It makes you feel empowered when you can do what you want to do,” she says. “I make my own schedule. It frees up time as a single parent to be more interactive in my son’s life.”

In addition to her beauty-business savvy, an important cause close to her heart keeps Shaundre motivated. As a courageous survivor of domestic violence who helps to educate others, she says, “I love the fact that Avon supports Speak Out Against Domestic Violence. Domestic violence almost gets lost in the shuffle; it falls in between the cracks. A lot of times, people don’t realize how many people it actually affects, or how often it occurs.”

7 Questions with Shaundre

Myself in three words: independent, determined and blessed (if I had to pick a fourth word, it would be survivor).

I love owning my own business because: not only does it allow me to be financially independent, but as a single parent it gives me the opportunity to have a flexible schedule to be a more hands-on mother to my son.

Empowerment means: the ability to have a positive effect on other people’s lives by way of motivation, dedication and determination through personal examples, experiences and encounters.

I feel most beautiful when: I am inspiring, empowering, motivating and bringing awareness to individuals and their families about domestic violence, and assisting them with their transition from victims to survivors.

My favourite treat is: my grandmother’s homemade lemon meringue pie. I can eat a whole one by myself without sharing a single crumb!

On a typical Friday night you’ll find me: curled up on the couch eating pizza and watching a good movie with my son — or you can find us both at one of our neighbourhood restaurants having dinner.

My secret weapons are: Glimmersticks Blackest Black Eye Liner and Care Deeply Lip Balm. When I put on my eyeliner, it gives my eyes life and makes me look awake, fierce and determined. When paired with my moisturizing lip balm, the two give my face a more inviting appearance.
