A self-proclaimed lipstick junkie, Los Angeles-based makeup artist Lauren Andersen has always been obsessed with all things gloss and mascara – a passion that has evolved from doing friends’ makeup in school to beautifying celebrities and clients as she travels the world as a global spokesperson for Avon. Her philosophy? Helping women look and feel like their best selves.

Lauren’s Story

“As a celebrity makeup artist, I often have a very early 5 a.m. wakeup call to be on set. I know I can quickly put on a powerful red lipstick and my face will instantly look brighter. The colour signifies that I’m awake and prepared — even when I catch my own reflection, it lifts my mood. When I’m working there’s no time to give myself touchups, and a soft matte red stays on throughout the day. I’m a big fan of Ultra Color Lipstick in Red 2000.

When selecting a shade for a client, I generally have her entire head-to-toe look in mind. What’s the event? What is she wearing? But when picking a shade for myself, it’s a bit more emotional. I have always loved lipstick and have worn every colour there is. It’s trial and error — if a shade doesn’t work, I’ll wipe it off and try something else. When I want to make a statement, I find myself reaching for that happy cherry red. It’s classic and bold, and makes me feel that way, too. And when I do a bold lip on myself, sometimes it inspires my client to take more of a chance on her own makeup.”
